Gov. Chris Christie heads to Mississippi, Louisiana

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has headed south for a handful of events on behalf of his political action committee.

The governor traveled to Jackson, Mississippi, and Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on Tuesday.

He spoke at a Mississippi Republican Party reception in the morning and attended a meet and greet with Gov. Phil Bryant.

He then headed to Louisiana for a meet and greet with U.S. Sen. David Vitter and a reception for the PAC backing Vitter's candidacy for governor.

This was Christie's first out-of-state trip since two former allies were indicted for their roles in the George Washington Bridge traffic scandal. A third pleaded guilty to corruption charges.

The Associated Press wire services contributed to this report.
