3 upper lanes of GWB closed for improvement project
Drivers beware. There could be significant delays on the George Washington Bridge overnight.
Three of the four upper lanes of the bridge have been closed heading into New York while the Port Authority makes repairs. Those lanes are expected to be reopened by the morning rush.
The closure stems from a steel deck improvement project that will continue for the next 12 weeks. While the project is underway, all lanes of the lower deck of the bridge will remain open. Trucks will have to use the one remaining lane on the upper deck.
All other drivers are urged to use the lower level or use an alternate route.
The closures are expected to occur every night until the project is complete. The upper lanes will be closed from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. during the week and from 10 p.m. until 10 a.m. on weekends.
