3 arrested in alleged dog-fighting ring

Three people were arrested in Paterson after authorities say they dismantled a dog-fighting ring.

Animal control officers arrived at a warehouse on East 16th Street on Friday night after neighbors complained of loud music. When the officers knocked and asked what was happening, a person at the door reportedly said they were watching a dog fight.

Officers say they found a plywood dog-fighting ring that was covered in splattered blood. Three seriously malnourished and injured pit bulls were also found.

One of the dogs was in grave condition. It was rushed to West Caldwell Animal Hospital and is recovering.

Inside the warehouse police also found a drug called dexamethasone. It's a steroid used on horses that was being injected into the dogs to make them stronger and more irritable.

Five summonses were issued to the suspects, whose names are Michael Coleman, Michael Rochelin and Jerry Mosquea. Each summons carries a $7,500 fine and a maximum of three years in jail.
