Suspect pleads not guilty in killing of hoops star

A man pleaded not guilty Thursday in Paterson for the shooting death of a high school basketball star.
Suspect Gregory Oliver, 20, faces a first-degree murder charge in the April 18 drive-by shooting of Armoni Sexton, 15, in Paterson. Oliver also faces three counts of attempted murder, as three other people were injured in the sidewalk shooting that killed Sexton. Oliver is being held at the Passaic County Jail on $2 million cash bond.
Oliver's attorney, Harley Breite, has said his client is innocent and has no knowledge of Sexton's shooting death, adding that his client was also shot on the same night. Breite says he doesn't know whether his client was shot before or after Sexton was killed.
Emotions were high in the courtroom at the Passaic County Courthouse, where relatives of Sexton and Oliver attended the hearing.
Sexton was a top scorer and rebounder at the Paterson Charter School for Science for Science & Technology. He wanted to play for the NBA.
Oliver was once a key player on a high school basketball team.
