Overnight storms leave widespread damage

Some nasty storms swept through parts of New Jersey overnight.
The heavy winds sent a tree crashing down on a front yard on Linden Avenue in Bloomfield. The home was not damaged, but the large tree stretched across the front yard.
In Newark, another large tree came down on top of a man's car by Summer Avenue and Nursery Street. The car had to be towed away, but no one was hurt.
Evening commuters were forced to take detours in towns like Hamilton and South Brunswick.
Fallen trees knocked down power lines and blocked access to roads.
PSEG and JCP&L reported that thousands of customers were without power across the state.
Electricity was slowly coming back online by the evening hours, and most are back online.
