Bishop leads Palm Sunday Mass after amputation
A bishop who overcame a major personal struggle led Mass on Palm Sunday in Trenton.
Bishop David O'Connell returned to Mass at the Saint Mary of the Assumption Cathedral.
In late December, the bishop had surgery to remove his lower left leg. He spent several months in rehab.
O'Connell had set a goal to return by Palm Sunday.
"I'm a stubborn Irishman, and I was determined to do whatever I was told to do," he said.
O'Connell came to the diocese of Trenton in 2010, and serves the parishioners of central New Jersey.
