An early morning fire Monday killed at least a dozen cats in Manchester.
The fire broke out at around 6:30 a.m. at a home on Chelsea Drive.
The homeowner, who did not wish to provide his name, tells News 12 New Jersey that he was away working overnight security when the fire started. He was devastated to hear the news of his pets.
"They were my family. I'd come home to them and they'd be waiting at the door," he says.
He says the Red Cross is assisting him with temporary housing. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
