Belmar considers doubling parking fees
The Belmar Borough Council has introduced an ordinance that would increase the price for metered parking from $1 to $2 come Memorial Day, if passed.
There are currently 320 pay-to-park spots on the beach side of Ocean Avenue in town. The Borough Council considered adding more than 200 additional pay to park spots, but that plan was scrapped after local opposition.
The reasoning for raising the parking prices would be to make improvements to the oceanfront without raising taxes. The public will be allowed to voice their opinions on the plan at the next Borough Council meeting on April 7.
