Fuel spill causes patients to evacuate from rehabilitation center

Patients at the Crystal Lake Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Ocean County were evacuated Thursday night due to a fuel spill.

Officials say hazmat crews were called to the Bayville facility after reports of diesel fuel spilled from a backup generator.

Approximately 250 patients were evacuated by wheelchair accessible buses to safe locations in both Monmouth and Ocean counties.

Some of the patients were sent to the middle school in Bayville after the evacuation.
