Woodland Park considering ordinance allowing earlier alcohol sales
A recently introduced ordinance could allow alcohol to be sold as early as 11 a.m. in Woodland Park.
Right now, the town's blue laws ban the sale of alcohol before 1 p.m. on Sundays.
Businesses say that ordinance hits them hard, particularly during football season, when they say they lose customers to establishments in nearby towns that are permitted to open and serve alcohol as early as 7 a.m. on Sunday morning.
The new measure has the backing of the borough council, the mayor, and his constituents.
The next step for the ordinance will be a public hearing. No word yet on when that hearing will take place.
Mayor Keith Kazmark says the measure is supposed to go to a vote of the borough council on Sept. 5.
