Lodi pushes for stronger rules on firefighters and alcohol
A proposed ordinance in Lodi is pushing for stricter rules surrounding alcohol consumption inside firehouses.
The mayor and the council have introduced an ordinance that would require firehouses to submit a request to the borough at least 45 days in advance for any event where alcohol would be served. In the request, firefighters would be required to detail what kind of alcohol would be served and how much, as well as a plan on how to keep alcohol out the hands of underage firefighters.
Lodi's volunteer squad is reportedly 'upset' by the proposed rules. They say it's common practice for some firefighters to enjoy a drink or two at the firehouse.
Council members will discuss the issue further at their meeting Sept. 18, when they could vote on the ordinance.
