Belleville resident Anthony Casale Jr. charged in crash that killed Verona mother Megan Villanella

A Belleville resident was charged for allegedly fatally striking a young Verona mother with his car last week.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office charged Anthony Casale, Jr., 25, with first-degree death by auto. He allegedly ran into Megan Villanella, 34, and her brother, Derek Longo, who were waiting at a bus stop at Lakeside and Pease avenues in Verona on March 3.

Villanella was pregnant, with a toddler at home. Longo was critically injured and remains in the hospital in stable condition.

Casale is also charged with assault by auto and possession of a controlled dangerous substance. Officials allege that Casale was driving under the influence when he struck the siblings.
