Dog credited with saving owner's life in Jackson Township

An Ocean County man is lucky to be alive and credits his good fortune to the quick action of his dog.

Jim Zimerla is grateful that his dog Marley knew exactly what to do when a fire broke out in his Jackson Township home. Zimerla says he removed his hearing aids before bed, so if it wasn't for Marley they both would have been killed.

"Marley came jumping in my bed and he woke me up at that point," says Zimerla. "I heard the alarm, looked down the hall and saw the red glow of the fire."

Zimerla was able to escape the fire by jumping out of his window. He first got Marley out and then himself.

The home was destroyed in the fire.
