Partial building collapse in Englewood forces evacuations

Several residents were forced to evacuate after a partial building collapse this morning in Englewood.

Fire and police officials responded to the scene of the collapse at 24 East Forest Ave. The next-door building at 22 East Forest Ave. was also evacuated. Nearby nail and hair salons and a corner deli have also been closed.

Utilities to the buildings have been shut off, and it's estimated that about a dozen people will be affected.

A fire official tells News 12 that construction workers on the scene removed a header, which resulted in the partial collapse.

The city engineer and other agencies are assessing the issue. It might take a couple of days before residents are allowed back in, depending on what the city engineer decides.
