Shed fire spreads to 2 garages in Wall Township, kills cat

A fire that started inside a shed spread to the garages of two homes in Monmouth County.

The fire started Monday afternoon inside the shed at 2404 Beech St. in Wall Township.

The fire quickly spread to grass around the shed and then spread to two nearby garages. The fire also melted some siding on one of the homes.

"Both homeowners are lucky that [the fire] didn't extend to the house," says South Wall Fire Chief John Sahatjian. "A quick response by the fire department and good work put the fire out quickly."

A cat that was inside the shed did not survive.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
