Man who escaped from police recaptured after chase; passenger also arrested

A man suspected of several shootings and robberies in Newark who escaped from police is back in custody after a chase through five towns.



According to police, they were tipped off on Wednesday that 22-year-old Rajahn Smith was driving a stolen car. Officers pursued the vehicle through Newark, East Orange, Belleville, Bloomfield and Irvington before it was abandoned.



Bloomfield police apprehended Smith and Kenyon Esannason, who was in the car with Smith and wanted on a warrant for receiving stolen property.



Smith is charged with escape.



It's not known if he has a lawyer.
