Authorities seize roosters from lounge; multiple arrests made

Newark police and SPCA officials seized roosters from a lounge and made multiple arrests early Sunday morning.

Authorities conducted a raid at the members-only El Cacique Social Club in Newark on North Sixth Street just before 12 a.m.

It is unclear how many roosters were seized during the raid and there was no word on their conditions.

Residents say they only thing that they have noticed about the business is that it tends to have loud music on the weekends.

A former member of the club told News 12 that he never witnessed any questionable activity during his time there.

News 12 reached out to Newark police to see if the raid had any connection to a cockfighting operation, but has not heard back.
