Morristown-Beard basketball coach battles lung cancer

As the basketball team at Morristown-Beard School prepares for this weekend's county championship, some players tell News 12 they are playing for more than just the win.

Their longtime coach Eddie Franz recently revealed he is battling lung cancer. Franz, 60, doesn't smoke, making his diagnosis rare.

Franz, who has been coaching for nearly 30 years, says on the court he can forget about cancer even, if it's for a short while.

He admits he's afraid, but has never shied away from a challenge. Franz says he fights not to be a hero, but to inspire.

"Is it beatable? If it is, I'm going to be one of the people to beat," he says.
