FAA probing chopper crash in Chatham

The FAA is investigating following Friday's helicopter crash in Chatham.

The crash happened around 6:30 p.m. near the Chatham Village Apartments along Main Street, approximately three miles south of the Morristown Airport.

Investigators are working to determine why the Robinson R44 helicopter crashed.

The helicopter, which weighs approximately 1,450 pounds, sustained heavy damage but remained mostly intact.

News 12 is told the passenger and pilot were able to walk away from the crash, but were taken to the hospital for back injuries.

Witnesses say it appeared to have first hit a garage before coming down on the ground, managing to avoid cars and people.

News 12 has learned the helicopter is registered to a Delaware address.
