Discovery of body in Shark River Park prompts murder investigation

The discovery of a body in a section of Shark River Park on the border of Wall and Neptune townships is now a murder investigation, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.

Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni says that the man whose body was found Wednesday inside the park was identified as 29-year-old Trupal Patel. Patel's body was found by a park ranger who was picking up litter on Gully Road.

Patel was reported missing by a friend on Feb. 9 in Asbury Park. A dark-colored Jaguar Patel was seen driving earlier that day was found abandoned on an Asbury Park street the day he went missing, according to officials.

Gramiccioni says that he wants to assure the public that Patel's death was an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing and active threats to residents.

Anyone who might have any information about Patel's death and disappearance is asked to contact Monmouth County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-671-4400 or text "MONMOUTH" and the tip to 274637 (CRIMES).
