Old Bridge Animal Shelter manager Karen Chen charged with animal cruelty

The manager of the Old Bridge Township Animal Shelter has been charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty.

The New Jersey SPCA says that Karen Chen did not provide the proper care for a cat that she knew had serious ongoing medical problems.

Animal Rights group "Reformers - Advocates for Animal Shelter Change in New Jersey" says that the problems at the shelter were brought to their attention months ago, and they are happy to see the NJSPCA taking action.

"If an animal is in pain and it can't be fixed, you need to vet it and fix the animal, or if it can't be fixed, you need to euthanize it," says advocate Collene Wronko.

Chen is expected to be in court on March 8.
