Fire at apartment complex leaves one man dead in Parsippany-Troy Hills

At least one man has died in a fire at an apartment complex in Parsippany-Troy Hills.

The fire broke out today around 4:15 a.m. at 300 Parsippany Blvd. in the Colonial Heights apartment complex/building. It started on the second floor of building 4.

According to Fire Chief Scott Serrechia, it took just 20 minutes to knock down the fire, but the thick smoke presented a challenge.

"We arrived to a working apartment fire on the second floor," says Serrechia. "We had one victim inside that we pulled out, and it's still an investigation of everything. We had heavy fire when we first got up the stairs."

The victim's name is not being released, but he is believed to be a 64-year-old man who lived alone.

No one else was injured.

Two apartments were damaged in the fire.

Investigators are trying to determine a cause, but they say it does not appear to be suspicious.
