60-year-old East Brunswick woman killed in early morning house fire

A 60-year-old woman died Friday after her home caught fire in East Brunswick, the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office says.

The fire started just after 4:30 a.m. at 16 Nelson Circle. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but officials say it does not appear to be suspicious.

Authorities identified the woman as Tracy Baran.

Neighbors tell News 12 New Jersey that she lived alone.

"It was just the mother by herself and the dog," says Sheri Lee Meyers, a neighbor. "The children, she had three children, all grown out of the house, but they did come to visit her and help the mother, but she was home by herself when this happened, very sad."

An autopsy determined that Baran died from smoke inhalation.
