2nd suspect in Maplewood murders arrested
A second man wanted in the murders of three people found in Essex County has been captured after a nationwide search.
Essex County prosecutors say 33-year-old Lavelle Davis, of Galloway, was found early Saturday morning nearly 40 miles away from the crime scene in Yonkers, New York.
Davis was considered armed and dangerous.
The arrest comes one day after the other suspect, 37-year-old Jimmy Mays, formerly of Egg Harbor Township, was picked up in Columbia, Maryland. He is now awaiting extradition.
The two men are accused of killing Michael Davis, Lance Fraser and Roshana Kelson.
The three victims were found shot to death inside an apartment in Maplewood back on Jan. 29. They were discovered after the Maplewood Fire Department was called to the apartment building to check on one of the residents.
Mays and Davis are now facing murder, robbery and weapons charges.
Authorities have not disclosed any information regarding possible motives for the slayings.
