Storm spares South Jersey from significant snow

A large snowstorm that moved across New Jersey spared much of South Jersey from significant snowfall.

Forecasters were predicting up to 10 inches of snow in areas of Monmouth and Ocean counties, but once the storm left New Jersey those areas saw about half that amount.

Although snow totals may not have been as much as in North Jersey, parts of the Jersey Shore did see enough snow to cancel school and close municipal offices.

Many businesses in Asbury Park closed their doors for the day, but the owners of some restaurants that stayed open say they saw an uptick in business.

Crews were out plowing roadways and clearing out parking lots for most of the morning and afternoon.

Temperatures overnight are expected to drop significantly, so what snow did fall in the area may refreeze. Road conditions are expected to be slick and potentially dangerous.

Windy conditions are expected to make temperatures feel much colder than they are.
