New Jersey Penn State Student Timothy Piazza dies after fall at fraternity house

A Penn State University student from New Jersey died after he fell down a stairwell at the Beta Theta Pi fraternity house.

Police say Timothy Piazza of Lebanon, Hunterdon County, died Saturday at Hersey Medical Center after he fell down the basement stairwell in the fraternity house around 11 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2.

Fraternity members apparently did not call paramedics for Piazza until about 12 hours after the incident, according to police. State College police found the sophomore unconscious on a couch on the main floor when they were called.

Piazza was intoxicated when he fell, police say. Details on his condition immediately after the fall have not yet been made public, and autopsy results have not yet been released.

The fraternity has been suspended, but police say its members are cooperating.

A funeral will be held for Piazza at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Whitehouse Station on Feb. 11.
