Saint Peter's University Hospital holds heart health screening for ‘National Go Red for Women Day’

Saint Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick held free heart health screenings Friday in honor of National Go Red for Women Day.

The screenings checked for blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol numbers. The results can sometimes signal a risk for a heart attack or stroke. The clinic was open to everyone.

"Sometimes we get numbers on people that are very high that they would never know that they had," says nurse Kathleen Iannuzzo. "People aren't going to their doctors on an annual basis."

According to the Cleveland Clinic, heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women in the United States, followed by all types of cancer combined.
