Kane In Your Corner: Barnegat couple out thousands after contractor fails to complete work
A Barnegat couple says they were forced to hire a new contractor after another contractor, who took their money, never finished their project.
Frank Ercolino and his wife Erica, who are deaf, hired fencing contractor Perrini and Sons last May to install a chain-link fence around their backyard pool. The project was supposed to cost $3,900.
Using his brother as a translator, Frank Ercolino says he gave Bob Perrini, the company's owner, $1,900 for materials to build the fence and then $1,500 more.
Ercolino says Perrini installed five fence posts but then never seemed to show up to complete the work.
Text messages between Ercolino and Perrini seem to show a series of excuses for not showing up to work on the project. Perrini said on two separate occasions that he had deaths in the family. He also claimed to be sick, had a family emergency, banking issues and that his supplier delivered the wrong materials.
Ercolino says that the work still was not complete seven months after the contract was signed. The couple was also facing fines from the town for having an unfenced pool.
The couple says they asked for a refund so that they could hire another contractor. Perrini stopped answering the couple's messages after that, they say.
Kane In Your Corner found multiple judgments against Perrini and Sons, totaling tens of thousands of dollars. There are other customers who say that Perrini took their money and never completed the work.
Kane In Your Corner tried to contact Perrini to get his side of the story, but he did not return repeated phone calls.
Ercolino says that once Kane In Your Corner started working on the story, Perrini sent him a text asking him not to tell reporters anything and promised to give them a refund. But as of this story's airing no refund has been made.
The Better Business Bureau tells Kane In Your Corner that they have not received any positive or negative feedback about the business. The head of the BBB's New Jersey office says that she was not familiar with Perrini and Sons.
