Violent night in Newark leaves father of 3 dead
A violent night in Newark Wednesday saw multiple shootings, a manhunt for suspects and the slaying of a father of three.
Victor Brantley, 26, was shot and killed just before 5 p.m. near Garside Street and Bloomfield Avenue. Another person who happened to be in the area was also shot but is expected to be OK.
Police say a person was seen running away from the scene of the shooting, prompting a manhunt. Police officers fired their guns during the search, but no one was hurt.
Joan Aguiree, 23, was soon found hiding in a dumpster near Kearny Street and Broadway in Newark. He has been charged with Brantley's murder.
Police say that they received a call that a bullet had pierced through a home nearby, but no one was hurt. It was not clear if the bullet was related to the crime scene.
Family members tell News 12 New Jersey that Brantley leaves behind three sons, including a 7-month-old.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office is also investigating a fatal shooting just before 8:30 a.m. Thursday. Newark resident Isaac Brown, 40, was shot and killed near 60 Norwood Ave. Police have not made any arrests in the case.
