Officer discharges weapon while trying to arrest murder suspect in Newark

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office is investigating a police-involved shooting in Newark that happened Wednesday afternoon.



The prosecutor says officers were near Bloomfield Avenue and Garside Street investigating the fatal shooting of a man around 4:45 p.m.



When officers tried to arrest a suspect in connection with that fatal shooting, the officers fired their guns, according to the prosecutor.



The prosecutor did not say if anyone was hit by gunfire or injured in any other way.



The name of the man allegedly shot by the suspects was also not released.
