2 Paramus police chases caught on dashboard camera
Paramus police have charged three men in two separate police pursuits Wednesday. Both chases were caught on the officers' dashboard cameras.
Authorities say Officer Donald Liu pulled over a 2000 Audi driven by 18-year-old Andre Felix around 2:15 p.m. for having a defective brake light. As Officer Liu tried to approach the car, police say Felix drove away.
Officers chased the Audi on Route 17 South, and then onto the Garden State Parkway. When the Audi tried to merge onto Interstate 80 West, police say it crashed into a guard rail and then into Officer Liu's cruiser.
Felix and his passenger, 20-year-old Steven Pena, were arrested and charged with the illegal possession of prescription drugs, which were allegedly found inside the vehicle.
The second chase happened about two hours later as police were looking for a 2011 Black Volkswagen Jetta whose driver was wanted for an alleged suspicious incident at the Walgreens Drug Store in Oakland.
Paramus police say officers spotted the Jetta on Route 17 South after it had fled from an Oakland officer. During the pursuit, police say the Jetta drove through storage yards and struck several cars. It then rammed into two Paramus police cars, causing significant damage, according to police.
One officer was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center to be treated for neck and back injuries.
The Jetta was eventually pulled over on the New Jersey Turnpike near Exit 15W after it struck another car. Police arrested 24-year-old Nicholas Vizzone of Roseland and charged him with reckless endangerment, eluding police and criminal mischief. Vizzone also allegedly had an active warrant for violating parole.
