Residents still can’t return after roof blows off Long Branch condo building

It's been two days since the roof blew off Ocean View Towers condo building in Long Branch, and residents still can't return.

Rick Matera, a board member with the condo association, says the roof is only two years old and the white, rubber sheath that ripped off was the layer of roofing that protects it from water seeping in through the top.

When the rubber came off, the sixth floor received water damage.

Several cars were left with broken windows when the heavy rubber coating landed.

Some residents opted to leave the building and stay elsewhere. It was voluntary at the time.

Those displaced lived on the upper level. No word on when they will be allowed back in.
