Winter storm brings several inches of snow to Sussex County

A winter nor'easter may have brought heavy wind and rain to the Jersey Shore, but it brought several inches of snow to northwestern portions of the Garden State.

Towns across Sussex County saw at least 1 to 3 inches of snow, causing many schools in the area to declare a snow day. Monday's nor'easter fell on the anniversary of the winter storm that brought more than 2 feet of snow last year.

Meteorologists say a storm of that magnitude could have happened again if the temperature was a few degrees colder Monday.

Many school-aged children took advantage of the extra day off by sledding down Sparta's various hills.

Vernon Township reportedly saw the most snowfall in the county with more than 3 inches in some areas.
