Paterson gas station attendant Ruskin Magamedov gunned down during robbery

Paterson police are searching for a suspect accused of gunning down a gas station attendant during an apparent robbery Monday evening.

The Passaic County prosecutor says that 57-year-old Ruskin Magamedov, of Fair Lawn, was shot and killed around 6 p.m. while working at First Avenue Gas, located just off Route 20. Surveillance video obtained by News 12 New Jersey shows what appears to be a man running from the scene with a long firearm.

Area business owner Bob Debois says that he is often a customer at the gas station. He was saddened to hear about Magamedov's death.

"I filled up every other weekend and gave the guy $1 tip like I usually do," Debois says. "He could barely speak English. He was just a nice guy."

Magamedov's co-workers tell News 12 that he worked at the gas station for about eight months. They say that the gas station only accepts cash, so they think that's why it was target to be robbed.

Investigators are asking for the public's help identifying a possible suspect. Anyone who might have information can contact the authorities or email tips to tips@passaiccountynj.org.
