Strong winds bring down roof of Ocean View Towers in Long Branch

Strong winds badly damaged the Ocean View Towers building in Long Branch.

Pieces of the roof started to fall off around 8:30 a.m. Monday. The whole roof came off by noon.

Debris fell on to several cars below.

There was no official evacuation declared, but many residents of the six-story condo building said they chose to leave. Many also moved their cars out of the parking lot.

"Our main concern is the roof," says Amy Laufer, of Long Branch. "More could come down. They are hoping that one of the many several companies here can stabilize the roof, and the storm hasn't even hit here."

People were told to stay inside due to the flying debris.

Strong winds from the nor'easter were expected to last for the rest of the day.
