Montclair police investigate reports of 2 attempted luring incidents

The Montclair Police Department is investigating two reports of attempted luring incidents in the township.

On Jan. 13, police say a 9-year-old boy was approached near Norwood Avenue and Marion Road by a blue or black sedan driven by a white man in his 50s. The boy told police that the man honked his horn and told the boy to follow him.

The driver was described as having "regular length" white and gray hair, with a white mustache and beard. Police have released a sketch of the suspect.

Police say another incident happened on Jan. 17 near Park Street and Claremont Avenue. A 16-year-old girl was apparently approached by a man driving a dark sedan. He told her to get into his car, but the teen left the area instead, according to police. Police say the only description of the suspect is that he had an accent.

Montclair police say they are not sure if the two incidents are related. Anyone who may have any information about the lurings should call 973-744-1234.
