Mayor Bill Laforet: Blue lines supporting police staying in Mahwah

The blue lines supporting police officers are staying in Mahwah, according to the city's mayor.

Somerset County received a letter last week from the Federal Highway Administration which said a blue line between a double yellow is illegal.

But Mayor Bill Laforet says the letter is absurd and he has no plans to remove the blue.

"We have an area on Route 287 where we've had a number of critical, fatal injuries," says Laforet. "We've talked to the DOT a number of times. They've failed to address this problem. That is something we depend on the DOT to do. Not worry about 200 feet of a blue line."

Laforet says not only will they keep the blue lines, but they'll repaint them after they fade.
