Coyote that attacked 66-year-old Long Valley man tests positive for rabies

A coyote that attacked a 66-year-old Morris County man who was out walking his dog tested positive for rabies, according to the Morris County Park Police Department.

Official say they are considering the attack to be an "isolated incident," so the Columbia Trail in Long Valley will remain open to the public.

The victim was notified about the animal's condition, according to officials.

The man was walking on the trail with two other adults when the coyote attacked him earlier this week. He was bitten on the buttocks and leg, but fought off the coyote with a stick. He was not seriously injured in the attack and told police he would seek treatment with his own private doctor.
