Woman hospitalized following police standoff in Westfield

A woman who barricaded herself inside a bedroom with a loaded handgun and threated to shoot police Thursday night is being hospitalized.

Westfield police say they received a call from the woman's friend, who was also inside the home at the time of the incident.

Police were able to get the friend out of the home and evacuated the neighbors as a precaution.

After a negotiator was unable to get the woman to leave her room, police forcibly entered the bedroom. They found the woman with a loaded .40-caliber gun.

She was taken into custody and taken to the hospital for an evaluation. It was not immediately known if she would face any charges.
