Sen. Menendez will question Senate nominees about Russia at confirmation hearings

Sen. Bob Menendez says that he will have questions about Russia for the nominees at next week's Senate confirmation hearings.

The senator says that he wants to question Rex Tillerson, President-elect Donald Trump's nominee for secretary of state, to ensure Tillerson is not a "friend of Putin."

Menendez says he also met with leaders of New Jersey's Ukrainian-American community to discuss Russian aggression.

"As we look at President-elect Trump's dangerous rhetoric about Russia's interference in our own elections, and those of our European allies and his outright denial of facts on the ground in Ukraine, I will be the first to reject this nonsense and hold the administration accountable," Menendez says.

Confirmation hearings before the Senate Foreign Relations committee are scheduled for Jan. 11 and 12.
