Michelle Lodzinski gets 30 years in prison for 1991 killing of 5-year-old son

The mother convicted in the 1991 killing of her 5-year-old son in New Jersey has been sentenced to 30 years in prison. Michelle Lodzinski faced a possible life sentence.

The Port St. Lucie woman was convicted of killing her son Timothy Wiltsey and was initially due to be sentenced last August.

The sentencing was delayed after her attorney filed a motion saying she should either be acquitted or get a new trial. The defense claimed that prosecutors relied on circumstantial evidence. A judge rejected that request in October.

Lodzinski initially said her son disappeared from a carnival in Sayreville, but then later claimed he was abducted. Prosecutors often cited her changing story during the case.

She was charged in 2014 after witnesses identified a blanket found near the boy's body nearly a year after he disappeared.
