Delayed construction on Route 518 Bridge forces closure of Rocky Hill ceramics business

The owner of a ceramics business in Rocky Hill says he was forced to close down the business due to delays in the construction work on the Route 518 Bridge caused by a lack of transportation funds.

John Shedd says that sales of dishware and vases at his gallery plummeted because the construction on the bridge has shut down traffic past the store.

"They said it would take a month. But it's gone on for six months," Shedd says.

The project was halted due to an order by Gov. Chris Christie in a dispute over the state's Transportation Trust Fund.

Shedd says after 37 years his business could not sustain the losses and he decided to close the gallery down. In the meantime, he's making as much pottery as possible to sell until he can find a new studio.

"They're going to take me out in my boots. I will find a way to keep doing this," he says.
