East Rutherford police cruiser dragged by stolen flatbed truck during chase

A police officer's cruiser was dragged by a stolen flatbed truck with the officer inside in a chase that began in New Jersey and ended in New York.

Authorities say an East Rutherford police officer spotted the truck, which was stolen from Bergen Brookside Auto Body and Towing in Hackensack, and tried to get the driver to pull over. However the driver fled on to Route 17, according to police.

At one point an East Rutherford police cruiser got hooked onto the rear of the stolen truck and was dragged.

The chase went through several Bergen County towns and continued onto the New York Thruway. Videos of the chase were posted on social media by several people.

The chase finally ended in New York after the truck crashed into a Ramapo police cruiser on Route 59 in Hillburn, New York, near the border of Suffern.

The driver, identified as Paul Gudanowski, was arrested and charged. He is being held by the New York state police and is awaiting extradition back to New Jersey.

The officer who was dragged was not seriously hurt.
