Mays Landing woman, great-granddaughter missing during trip in Virginia found safe
A 71-year-old Mays Landing woman and her great-granddaughter who went missing during a holiday road trip to see family were found safe in Virginia.
Virginia State Police say Barbara Briley and 5-year-old La'Myra Briley were found shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday still seated inside their silver Toyota Rav4 that was parked on private property in Dinwiddie County, Virginia. The property owner noticed the vehicle and alerted police.
Barbara Briley was flown to VCU Medical Center in Richmond, but officials did not immediately disclose why she was being treated.
Police say La'Myra Briley appeared to be unharmed and alert, but was also taken to the hospital to be checked out.
The pair had been missing since Christmas Eve. They left New Jersey that morning and were last seen that evening at a gas station in Ruther Glen, Virginia, about 30 miles north of Richmond. They were headed to see relatives in North Carolina.
Family members say Briley, a former New Jersey Transit driver, has made the drive many times before.
The Associated Press wire services contributed to this report.
