71-year-old man assaulted during apparent home invasion in Bergenfield

A 71-year-old man was tied up and assaulted during an apparent home invasion Tuesday afternoon.
Bergenfield police say that the victim, identified by neighbors as Paul Wilson, told them he found a tall, thin white man inside his Sunset Place home. The suspect was described as wearing a gray sweater and black winter hat.
The intruder apparently struck Wilson in the head with a cane and tied his hands together. The suspect then reportedly stole $10 and a debit card, according to police.
Wilson says that he was able to free himself and made his way to his neighbor Rich Hill, who called police. Wilson was treated at the hospital for a gash on his head, but was soon released.
"Given his age and physical condition, there is really no reason to hit him over the head with a cane," Hill says.
Police searched the area for a suspect but did not find him any trace of him
