Santa visits terminally ill 2-year-old
Santa arrived a few days before Christmas this year to pay a visit to a family in need.
This Santa was brought in specially for 2-year-old Edith Marie Velez and her cousins.
Edith Marie's father, Edwardo, says he and his wife asked a social worker for Santa to come because his daughter will get sick if taken outside.
Edith Marie suffers from a rare and terminal genetic disorder that gives her seizures.
Edwardo says she spends most of the day sleeping, but she woke up for a few minutes when Santa arrived. Her parents said it was a visit they had hoped to see happen.
Newark police say it's part of their mission to give special attention to families in need during the holidays.
The families received about 30 gifts from Santa through the U.S. Marine Corps' Toys for Tots program.
