Man charged in Sarah Butler’s death pleads not guilty in killing 2nd woman
The man charged in the murder of a missing college student earlier this month has pleaded not guilty to charges in the murder of a second woman.
Khalil Wheeler-Weaver, 20, of Orange, was charged in the murder of 33-year-old Joanne Brown. Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray says Brown was last seen Oct. 22 in Orange and reported missing later that month. A work crew found her body Dec. 5 at a vacant house in Orange. Murray says she was strangled.
Wheeler-Weaver recently pleaded not guilty to the murder of 20-year-old Montclair resident Sarah Butler. Butler's body was found covered with leaves inside the Eagle Rock Reservation in West Orange on Dec. 1. Officials say she was strangled as well.
Authorities say Wheeler-Weaver and Butler were acquaintances, but there is no indication that Wheeler-Weaver knew Brown.
Anyone with information on either case is asked to call the prosecutor's tips line at 877-847-7432.
