NJ Department of Transportation prepares roads for weekend inclement weather
The New Jersey Department of Transportation spent much of Friday making sure the state's roads are safe to travel on this weekend with snow and ice in the forecast.
Crews started coating roads with a saltwater solution that should prevent precipitation from sticking. The state's salt silos were also fully stocked for crews to salt the roads.
State officials say that it is important for motorists to use caution, even with all of the preparations
"Slow down. Give yourself extra time and know that road conditions can change quickly," says DOT spokesman Steve Schapiro.
Other officials say New Jersey residents should assess if being out on the road is important and say that staying home may be the best option.
The overnight snow was expected to turn to sleet and rain by the afternoon.
News 12 New Jersey meteorologists say that the ice is a greater concern than the snow during this storm.
