Man sentenced for fatal armed robbery

(AP) - A judge has sentenced a man to life in prison for killing the robbery victim who chased him down in Long Branch.

The judge on Thursday imposed the sentence without the possibility of parole for 57-year-old Alan Bienkowski of Point Pleasant.

Prosecutors say Bienkowski hit 56-year-old Michael Wells on the back of the head and robbed him when he arrived for work to open Dutch Prime Foods in Long Branch in 2013. Wells chased Bienkowski, who prosecutors say shot Wells when the men came face-to-face in a yard.

Bienkowski was convicted of another murder in Ocean County earlier this year.
