Route 9 reopens after crash creates daylong delays

A crash on Route 9 in Old Bridge led to road closures and heavy traffic delays on Sunday.

Police say the crash happened around 11 p.m. Saturday.

Witnesses say a truck crashed into several telephone poles, knocking the wires and poles across the highway.

Route 9 remained closed for much of Sunday, creating huge traffic jams from Laurence Harbor and South Amboy to Parlin.

The traffic was made worse by many people trying to avoid the parkway due to the ongoing construction project just south of the Driscoll Bridge
